It’s National Day of Writing (so why do YOU write?)

Apparently today is ‘National Day of Writing’.

And the hashtag #whyIwrite is trending on Twitter.

(by the way, if you’re a writer who isn’t on Twitter then you need to join immediately – look out for a post on that in the immediate future)

Browsing the hashtag is fascinating. I never knew there were so many reasons to write.

They range from the worthy:

To the amusing (at least I think he’s joking):

Whether it’s your own personal form of therapy:

Or a way to communicate more freely:

All these reasons are valid, and all will strike a chord with writers.

But the one that really stood out to me was this:

I write because I enjoy using language, I write because it helps me focus, I write because it pays the bills.

But ultimately I write because I have to. I just can’t imagine doing anything else.
