The NOP World Culture Score Index was released last week, showing which countries read the most. And it contained a few surprises.
Turns out the world’s biggest readers are in India.
And they spend an average of 10 hours and 42 minutes a week with their heads in a book.
That’s pretty impressive.
I tried to calculate my own average and it’s probably nearer to six hours.
The two other countries making up the top 3 were Thailand and China.
The US trailed in at 22nd place (your average American reads for 5 hours and 42 minutes a week) while the UK was several points below at 5 hours and 18 minutes.
I’m ashamed to say that my own country, Ireland, didn’t make the list.
Poor show, Ireland.
